Thrill a minute at Denaby

Denaby United 2 Shrewsbury 3

Shrewsbury could count themselves lucky to take both points from their visit to Denaby United on Saturday

Shrewsbury won 3-2, but Urien, the home goalkeeper, ought to have saved at least two of the goals. Shrewsbury were certainly worth a point, and owed their success to the fact that they were able to stay the pace better. Denaby had long periods of superiority, but one always had the feeling that in the end Shrewsbury would pop in the winner. They did so 15 minutes from time.

Phillips scored for Shrewsbury in the first minute, Hughes added a second seven minutes later, but Hyde, deputising for Frank Wright at centre forward, reduced the arrears after 15 minutes and Strachan equalised after 33 minutes with a glorious ground shot.

Butler completed the scoring after 74 minutes.
