Keeper Defies Denaby
Denaby United 2 Stamford 2

That Stamford left Tickhill Square on Saturday richer by one point was thanks largely to the courage and inspiration of goalkeeper Parr, playing his first match after his signing from Worksop on Thursday.

Denaby thoroughly deserved this 2-2 draw, for during their second half revival the Stamford keeper was often all that stood in their way to a win, and even he couldn’t keep it up, for after preserving a 1-1 draw and then a 2-1 lead until two minutes from the end, Parr was helpless against SMITH’s equaliser.

The latter was an excellent example of how well Denaby’s attacks are building up now. Foster pushed the ball forward to Woodger, and the right half – playing perhaps his best game of the season – neatly chipped it through to Smith, who promptly cracked it into the top of the net.

Denaby had looked very unspectacular in the first half after a 15th minute goal from Stamford centre-forward Terry KELLY, who barely had to lift himself from the ground to reach a perfectly placed lob from Stimson.

And it was rather a surprise when in the 29th minute Jimmy KELLY equalised for Denaby, as he was sent away by a smart Smart pass.
In the second half the tide turned Denaby’s way, with the half back line functioning well, and Cox looking extremely happy at right back.

But Parr was there to save at least three ‘certain’ goals, flinging himself at Kelly’s feet to save the day, holding a point blank shot from Trevor Whittaker, and tipping over the bar an “unstoppable” 30 yard drive from Cox.

Disallowed Goal
It was only after Smith had had an apparently “bona fide” goal in the 75th minute disallowed that Stamford took the lead as SMITHSON shot from a crowd of players in the 87th minute.
It seemed all was lost for Denaby until Woodger, with his back to Smith, somehow chipped the ball through to him.
It’s good to see centre-forward Jimmy Kelly getting among the goals at last – he’s got three in the last two matches.
