Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Monday 19 October 1903

Denaby United 3  Chesterfield Reserves 3

At Denaby, in fair weather, before a moderate crowd, the first attacked, and the exchanges were very fast. After ten minutes Roper scored for Denaby with a fast, low shot, completely outwitting Sillecock.

Chesterfield pressed, and a moment later Cappingdale equalised, whilst shortly afterwards Hoped in. Cappingdale again placed the teams level. Dyal put Denaby ahead.

The home team had the best of the subsequent exchanges, and were still leading at the interval. Resuming, both ends were visited, but Evans, with an open goal, slipped when about to shoot.

For a time Chesterfield had the best of the play, Massey having to save many times. At the other end Dyal shot over from a splendid position. The subsequent play was very fast and exciting, both ends being visited in turn.

The home forwards, when placed in a good position, shot over. Milnes scored for the visitors with a beautiful twenty yards shot just before the whistle blew for time.

Result: Denaby United, 3 goals; Chesterfield Reserves, 3 goals.
