Three For Kelly

Denaby 3, Loughboro’ 0

The Denaby forwards were hopelessly weak during most of the first half at Denaby yesterday, but they pulled round in the second half and made up for their mistakes. They were quick, but their shooting was in-effective — specially that of Brayshaw and Johnson.

In the second half Denaby played much brighter football and were well worth their win. Kelly was a capable leader, but he would not have shown up so well had it not been for the good play of Jenkins. who though at times weak in front of goal was one of the best forwards on the field. He helped Kelly considerably, and each time Kelly was dangerous it was Jenkins who had drawn the defence before parting. The halves played well in the second half and Taylor was outstanding in defence.

The Loughboro’ defence was strong in the first half but the gruelling Denaby attacks told on them and in the second half they were done. Swaine in goal made no mistakes the second half; in the first half he saved Loughborough again and again.

The first goal came after seven minutes in the second half. After Denaby had attacked from the start Brayshaw worked through and passed to KELLY, who scored. Two minutes later KELLY scored a second goal, and just, before the finish he shot from a crowd of players and scored a third.
