Denaby 3  Newark 1

Denaby, in miserable weather, before a poor attendance.

In the first minute Denaby ran down, and Ball centred, but McMillan cleared. Newark replied, and Robinson beat Bryan, but Marsh came across and cleared. Denaby attacked hotly, and the home forwards for a minute did everything but score, Frost hitting the upright with a good shot, Newark transferred play, a free kick helping them, but Madden was wide with his final shot The plavers had difficulty in controlling the greasy ball. Denaby did most of the attacking, but the forwards did not finish well. Newark looked dangerous when Robinson broke with a clear course; he centred, and Barnet headed into Hancock’s hands. A breakaway by Newark was spoilt by off-side.

Twenty minutes from the start Murphy drove in great shot. Smith pushing the ball out for Frost retaliate, and score Denaby’s first goal. Give-and take play followed, a fine solo run by Robinson finding Barnet weak with his shot. At the other and Kerry struck the Newark crossbar, and from the rebound Lowsley headed over.

Resuming, the Newark goal escaped luckily. A bad mistake by Hancock, the home goalkeeper, resulted in Simpson equalising. Newark stuck to their task well, but were subjected periods of heavy pressure, in the course of which Smith, Kirk, and (McMillan put in a lot of sound defensive work.

Half-an-hour from the resumption Ball gave Denaby the lead. Three minutes later Nimrod placed a free kick nicely for Moseley to head a third.
