Denaby United 4  Grantham 1

Denaby United still needed, one point from last night’s match with Scarborough to avoid seeking re-election.

On Saturday they took another step to safety by defeating Grantham, but the result (4-1) was reversed on Monday in their match with Notts Forest reserves.

Saturday’s 4-1 victory might easily have been a 7-3 result. With the ten other Grantham men behind him, and Ashton alone in front, Booth twice pushed the ball past the post, and there was another miss when Law, cleverly pushing the ball to one side of Sands and rounding the half-back to regain possession, crossed it in front of the Grantham goal. Booth saw it flash past his feet, Schofield apparently surprised that. Booth had failed to divert it into the proper quarter, was too late to do anything about it as the ball flew past him, and Cherry, never expecting the ball would reach him at all, suddenly found himself ‘ chasing to retrieve it.

Grantham, in their turn, missed two goals with bad luck but taken all round, there was only one,  side in it. Lockwood, Lee, Osborne. and Law took the eye in an encouraging display.

The goals—BOOTH (nine minutes), THORPE (Grantham—12minutes), BARKE (penalty-20 minutes) and LAW (two in the second half after 53 and 82 minutes).
