Exciting Match at Denaby.

Denaby United 4  Sheffield United Res 4

Denaby United and Sheffield United Res. met at Denaby, yesterday, under the worst possible conditions, considering which the pace at which the game was fought was remarkable.

There was a big crowd, and they got their money’s worth of excitement, for a thrilling game ended in a draw of four goals each. Three goals were scored in the first five minutes, Rawson giving the visitors the lead, Machin equalising, and Smith putting Denaby ahead.

Alter 20 minutes Lacey increased the lead with a header. O’Connell suffered injury in trying to stop the shot, and retired until halftime.

For a time the United Reserves were kept entirely on the defensive, but before the interval arrived they had brought the scores level through Wilson and Rawson

In the second half both teams fought grimly for the lead, but no goals were scored until close on time, when Elliott netted for the Reserves and Machin equalising immediately afterwards.

The Denaby team played splendidly, and although much smaller physically than their opponents, they showed no signs of fatigue.
