Golden Touch Still in Denaby’s Hands

Denaby United 5, Brodsworth M.W. 0

Tick, tack, toe” – Denaby United found that golden touch again to drop the jackpot at Tickhill Square on Saturday

luckless Brodsworth turned up the three lemons as the well oiled Denaby machine churned out the goals for a 5-0 win which takes them just a little bit nearer Yorkshire league first division soccer.

On a day when many local matches were cancelled, ground conditions at the square were difficult and that didn’t help Brodsworth. A 15th minute chance as Prenderlieth broke away could have given them a surprise lead, but after that Denaby’s defence gave them only enough rope to hang themselves.

After an indifferent start Denaby took a 37th minute lead through Ken Launders – Sherman the unstoppable they’re calling him. He floated on a Gerry Smith centre past Stockwell. Three minutes later a Brodsworth defender handled a freekick and Caunt made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

Wiggles Goal

The most deserved goal of the match came after 75 minutes from the unshakeable Jimmy Wiggles who forsook his right back spot to lash a 30 yard shot into the Brodsworth net.

Alan Cooper laid in the fourth for Barton. The centre forward managed to squeeze a shot out of a jumbled goal area which Brodsworth never seem to get properly organised, despite the never say die efforts of Charlton at centre half. Mike Smith showed the proper way to take a corner when he swung his centre into the back of the net almost on time, without anyone else so much as breathing on the ball.
