Denaby United 5 Leicester Fosse Reserve 1

At Denaby last evening, before 1,000 spectators, Denaby made two changes from the team beaten on Saturday, Thompson and Butler coming into the defence. Denaby were quickly aggressive, and  twice Starbuck brought off fine saves at close quarters from Hartley, while again he cleared a fast grounder from Ball.

Leicester at length got going, and Spriggs topped the home crowbar with a fast shot. Denaby were soon attacking again and from pass by Blackburn, Glennon scored their first goal. Five minutes later Dyal put on a second, which Starbuck got his hands to, but couldn’t hold. Denaby continued to play with tremendous dash, and Blackburn, with a clear course, ran through, whilst the visitors were appealing for off-side, and added third goal with a terrific shot, Starbuck going down full length in a futile attempt to save.

Though three goals in arrears. Fosse now put in better work, and from a centre from Holding, Spriggs headed into Thompson’s hands. More abortive pressure followed, but the Denaby attack again came into the picture, and Starbuck was severely tested. Fosse came again, and West scored their first point, but this was neutralised by another goal from Glennon, Denaby crossing over, loading by four goals to one’.

Re starting, both goals had narrow escapes in the first minute. The fast pace of the first half was well maintained, with the Fosse now showing greatly improved form. Denaby however, were the more dangerous, and on a hot attack E. King fouled Blackburn, and that player promptly converted the penalty. The exchanges to the finish ruled evenly.

Result: Denaby United 5 goals Leicester Fosse Reserve. 1 goal
