A Denaby Triumph
Loughboro’s Heaviest Defeat.

Denaby United 5, Loughboro Corinthians 0

For the third time this season Denaby United scored five goals in a match, but Saturday was the only occasion upon which they did so without response. Loughborough came to Denaby with a good reputation, and included in their forward line was the league’s champion scorer, Housley. They were, how ever, without their usual centre half, the conditions were against football, and victory went to that team which adapted themselves to them.

That team happened to be Denaby, and in spite of many brilliant raids by Loughborough, Denaby kept their goal intact. There were some good openings early in the game, from which Denaby must have scored even if they had not been awarded a penalty kick, for an offence by Pye.

This early goal, scored by Windle, was valuable on such a day. It showed the thing could be done, and Loughborough promptly attacked on the left. This wing, consisting of Housley and Bowly, was always dangerous and had it not been for sound defensive play by Denaby, their efforts must have obtained goals.

The other goal of this half was scored by Allen after 25 minutes play. It was a clever and, from the view of Ball, an unexpected goal, whipped smartly in from an acute angle.

A sample of the Loughborough’s team good work came at the beginning of the second half, when they played remarkably well. Several calls were made upon Bromage, and it was only with great skill that he was able to divert the shot sent in. The visitors, maintaining that consistency in inconsistent play, they had exhibited in the first half, soon fell off, however, and after 18 minutes Fawdon increased Denaby sleep, and repeated the performance two minutes later. At this stage the upper half of the field was enveloped in fog, and play was rather scrappy to the end, Denaby always been the more dangerous. Close on time, F. Brown scored the fifth goal.

The Denaby forwards soundly, and were well supported by the halfback line Bisby and Wheelhouse kept their Loughborough attackers at a safe distance with one or two exceptions, when Bromwich proved his worth by saving some teasing shots.
