Sheffield Challenge Cup.
Denaby United 5 Rotherham Town 1
Dear both teams having drawn in the semi final at Millmoor last Saturday, met again yesterday afternoon on the Mexborough Town ground before 500 spectators.
Rotherham had the good fortune to win the toss, having to face wind, aim, and slope. This, notwithstanding, the Denaby attack, with fewer chances, was by far the more dangerous. In the first half. Hancock, the Denaby goalkeeper, only had two straight and easy shots to negotiate, the Clifton Laners being very erratic in their shooting.
After 20 minutes’ play Glennon was heavily grounded close in by Jones, scored for Denaby from a penalty, and ten minutes later Tufnell locally added a second. A minute before the interval Burkinshaw converted a penalty for Rotherham, given against Nimrod for handling, and half-time arrived with Denaby leading 2—l.
In the first part of the second half Rotherham played a greatly improved game, but Hancock twice saved his side. Then Denaby went further ahead through goals bv Kelley and Tufnell.
Result: Denaby United 5 goals. Rotherham Town 1 goal-
