English Cup
Second Qualifying Round
Denaby’s Splendid Victory.
Denaby United 5 York City 1
The Denaby supporters will be in excellent good humour with themselves because of the fine victory brought off by their favourites against the visitors from the Cathedral City.
When Ball headed the home team’s first goal after play had been in progress about ten minutes, the spectators were delighted ; and more so when Thompson Dyal increased the lead for them two minutes later.
Denaby, however, did not have all the play as that score would suggest in the first half. The York forwards on several occasions becoming exceedingly dangerous, but they failed when in close quarters.
The second half was always undoubtedly in favour Denaby. The City were outclassed. For Denaby, Ball. Dyal, and Blackburn were in fine trim; whilst their half-backs fed the forwards well. The rear rank though not called to do much, were always safe and sound, and in goal, F. Thompson always ready for duty.
