Sparkling Display Against Staveley.

Denaby 7, Staveley 1

Dennby’s second engagement of the season on Monday at Tickhill Square brought an easy 7-1 win. Denaby played the same eleven as on Saturday, but Staveley, who also opened the season with a draw at home, made changes. Denaby soon showed superiority and were much improved on Saturday’s form.

Within five minutes Dental forced a corner and Kaye shortly after headed against the crossbar. The first goal came within ten minutes. Rowe sent a long pass to Taylor, which went over the heads of the defenders, and TAYLOR easily beat O’Connell. Within two minutes PENDLETON equalised. He took a pass, neatly beat Ogley, and scored with a cross shot.

Almost immediately Denaby again took the lead. Finney took a free kick and landed the ball in the goal. Kaye stopped it for TAYLOR to rush in and score. It was a clever piece of team work. Denaby kept up pressure; working well together and soon got number three with a smart movement. Taylor received from Kaye and took the ball well upfield, to pass over the heads of the defenders for GREEN to score. After 36 minutes TAYLOR, who worked like a Trojan scored Denaby’s fourth and his own third. He took a pass from Green and drove in from an angle.

The second half did not produce the sparkling football of the. first but it further demonstrated Denaby’s superiority.

Twice in the first ten minutes Kaye had hard luck, and after repeated attacks GREEN added another goal. Five minutes later KAYE scored yet another. Staveley tired and their goal had a number of narrow escapes

Denaby scored their seventh goal shortly before the end. KAYE hit an upright and O’Connell dived for the ball but deflected it into the net.

Denaby played excellently, and the selection committee appear already to have found a sound combination. Taylor and Kaye justified their selection. The forwards played well together and in the middle Green was thrustful, quick, and unselfish. The defence was sound. Staveley were weak at half-back. Teams:—

Denaby: Speight; Woodhead, Ogley; Hill, Finney, Senior; Howe, Smith, L. Green, Kaye, Taylor.

Staveley. O’Connell, Ashall, Thompson; Jones, Sindall, Hughes; Tremelling, Reed, Pendleton. Kelly, Small.
