Denaby United 3 Hull City Reserve 0

At Denaby yesterday morning, before a moderate attendance. The home team made several changes. Denaby made a good start. Hartley giving them the lead inside five minutes. Hull replied, and Marshall centred for Welch to clear. Denaby were most of the attacking, and Hartley added a second goal after neatly tricking Hall. Lindley, the Hull custodian, was frequently tested, and showed his old cleverness. Hull attacked periodically, but Hancock, the Denaby goalkeeper, was rarely troubled. The strong wind behind them proved a great assistance to the home team. Hull at this point were deprived of the services of Marshall, who was helped off the field injured. Nearing the interval, Shaw missed an easy chance of scoring for Hull. Denaby continued to have more of the play.

Re-starting, Hull, with the assistance of the wind, cut out the pace, and Hancock in the first few minutes cleverly brought off three or four saves. The Denaby defence resisted Hull’s pressure, and the home forwards took up the running, Hartley being almost through. Hull were still without Marshall, who, it transpired, had sustained a fractured collar bone. Once Thistleton sent in a fast drive, which Hancock coolly cleared. The Denaby defence came through a lot of hard work well, and then the home attack came more into prominence, centres by Ball and Westwood causing Lindley to come out to clear. Ball scored a third goal on time.

Result: Denaby United 3 goals Hull City Reserve 0 goal.
