Divisional Champions
Presentation of Medals

On Saturday evening at the miners welfare Institute, Denaby Main, the members of the Denaby United team were entertained to tea in celebration of their championship of the Northern Division of the subsidiary competition of the Midland League last season.

After the tea the medals were presented by the president of the club, Mr H.C.Harrison, who once again made an appeal for better public support.

Mr J.J.Roper, secretary of the Midland Counties Football Leak, spoke of the highest standard of football attained at Denaby.

A letter was read from Mr A.King Scott, president of the Midland league, in which he thanked the club and who stated, “I should very much have liked to be present, if only to testify to the fine display given by your players in the championship match at Lincoln. After that game I could easily understand you are being divisional winners, and if only you can produce that for next season I don’t think you will be far off the championship.”

Apologies were also read from Mr Hague’s Greenwood, secretary of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Football Association; Mr Colin Ward of Swinton.

Mr W.P.Marsden and Mr C Bickerstaff, chairman second respectively of the Mexborough F.C., were present, and Mr Marsden remarked that it Denaby could beat Mexborough football, Mexborough could turn the tables at cricket.

Also present were Mr H.Holly, Mr W.still, Mr E.T.Hardy, Mr a Roberts, JP.cc, and Councillor T.J.Gregory, chairman of Denaby United Committee with Mr J Hancock secretary and Mr W Astbury financial secretary.
