Doncaster Rovers 1 Denaby 2

The Rovers ground still being under suspension, these teams met the St. Peters Club ground, Conisbro on Saturday, before a big attendance.

This was the Rovers’ initial match in the League, and they were without Charles, whose place was filled by Eales.

Hancock won the toss, and Doncaster started up hill. Denaby were soon at work and Ball, on the left, went away to force and abortive corner. This was followed a continual bombardment of the’ Doncaster citadel, and Padley from a difficult angle shot against the post, the ball going by Jackson info the net.

This reverse livened matters up a bit, the Rovers advancing into the United quarters. After a couple of fouls Wilson pressed Hancock and ran into the net with the ball. This was all the scoring in opening moiety, and in the second Denaby had most the play, and from a corner Murphy scored for them.

Doncaster were tiring, and with two forwards lamed their efforts were feeble. Once Hancock saved a hot ‘un from Fretwell, which was much applauded by the crowd.
