Denaby went over to Runcorn last –weekend and played a friendly with this top-ranking Cheshire League side. It was regretted that the Midland League programme had again to be interrupted (Peterborough were cup tied), but the match afforded an opportunity for trying out one or two new players and some of them put up a very good show.

Cliff Smith was in goal, following the transfer of Alfred Hackett (a Roystonian) (picture) to Notts County. Denaby are sorry to bid another farewell (Hackett has played only a dozen games in the league and cup with United before his abilities have taken him higher in the soccer world) and wish him all the best in his new sphere. The transfer fee is described as ” satisfactory.”

Denaby were hoping to go to Goole this week-end in addition to fulfilling their Sheffield Senior Cup second round tie with Bentley, at Denaby, but Goole are also cup-tied and the fixture goes into the growing list of those to be arranged.
