Denaby Forwards Again Held
Grantham 2, Denaby United 0
Denaby, who a few weeks ago, comfortably defeated Grantham at Tickhill Square were beaten by two goals at Grantham on Saturday.
Denaby were again without Aubrey Black, their clever inside right who strained a leg muscle in the match at Millmoor the previous Monday, and the forward line never got going against a very steady defence.
Grantham were aggressive in the early stages and might have taken an early lead but Kirk Miss a good chance. Death endangered the Denaby goal but Seth King got the ball away with his head. Denaby were for the most part on the defensive and Grantham’s failure to control the lively ball was largely responsible for their inability to score. Gale was very active in the Denaby goal and made several energetic clearances, but with the game only just over a quarter of an hour old he was beaten by a header from Pearson. The ball struck under the bar and DUDLEY promptly kicked it into the net.
Denaby made spirited attempts to equalise, and the Grantham goalkeeper had to be on the alert but the next goal fell to the home team, PEARSON scoring.
Denaby did better in the second half but Grantham maintained their lead through keen defensive work.
