Gresley Rovers 1 Denaby United 2

At Gresley. At the start the United assumed the aggressive, and after Gray had saved from Lavery a corner fell to them, this being followed by a foul close in, but offside spoilt the chance

Gresley took up the attack, and Wiles scored an neat goal from a difficult angle, this being after 10 minutes play.

The game was fast and interesting, and Hosey tested the own custodian with a capital effort. Keeping up the pressure Denaby swarmed round the own goal, and from a scrimmage they netted the ball, which went through off one of the home backs just on the interval when the score stood one each.

The second half saw Gresley pressing hotly, but time after time Massey and his backs clear.

Corners to Gresley brought no advantage, and for some time shots rained on, and around the Denaby defence.

Eventually, however, the visitors transferred, and found the home defence plenty of work.

10 minutes of the close Lavery, who had just previously mulled a good chance, give Denaby the lead with a fast low shot at close quarters.

Gresley tried desperately last few remaining minutes to draw level, but failed.
