Gresley Rovers v. Denaby United
Played at Gresley in fine weather, the match opened strongly in favour of the home side, who immediately put Denaby’s defence under pressure. Hancock was called upon to make several excellent saves, but after fifteen minutes Dytham scored the opening goal for Gresley.
Denaby worked hard to equalise and forced several corners, but were unable to break down a solid defence. Gresley continued to press, with Harrison narrowly missing on two occasions. At half-time, the home side led by one goal to nil.
In the second half Denaby improved and created better chances, with Goodlad twice striking the crossbar with powerful shots. Despite this, Gresley’s defence remained resolute, and the home side extended their lead when Dytham headed in a second goal.
Shortly afterwards Rollings added a third, effectively securing the match for Gresley. Denaby applied pressure in the closing stages but were unable to score.
Result:
Gresley Rovers – 3 goals
Denaby United – 0 goals
