Denaby Again Under.
Pursued by a peculiar fate, Denaby went to Hull on Saturday, only to be beaten as last year, after playing a hard and resolute game, in which, from time to time they showed to advantage.
Hull scored in the first two minutes, Taylor turning a fine centre to account. Denaby were hard pressed for time, but ultimately Bennett, Blackburn, and Kelly turned the tables, and the visitors almost scored from capitally placed corner kick by Ball. Hancook had his hands full subsequently but he behaved well. Denaby failed to play up to form, and H. Hall and Hand were almost through for Hull. Later Denaby did much better, and from a centre Blackburn had the possible beating of Roughly, who, however, succeeded in pushing the ball away. Bennett also narrowly missed. Spate, ball, and Thorton combined well, but in endeavouring to them Stevenson, Hulls right back, was injured and Had to retire. Denaby had a succession of corners and almost equalised.
Half-time: Hull City 1, Denaby 0.
Hull pressed hotly on resuming, but Denaby defended well, and though Denaby finished with 10 men they prevented any more scoring and the game ended:
Hull City Res. —– 1 goal
Denaby ————–0 goal
