Hull City Res. 2, Denaby United 3
After a keen struggle at Ashley Road, Denaby United just managed to snatch a victory by the odd goal in five. The teams were on level terms at half-time with two goals each to their credit, and the second half was a struggle for supremacy.
Hagger scored the winning goal after weaving his way through the home defence. The game had been in progress 21 minutes when Ward, the Denaby centre-forward, opened the scoring.
Tallents equalised but it was not long before Carter put Denaby ahead again and Atkinson kept up the pendulum-like swing of the game by levelling the scores again.
Denaby’s success was a real triumph and it was only their keenness and determination that brought them this credible result.
The visitors’ defence was as sound as their attack was forceful.
