Denaby United Bring Useful Points from Ashley Road.

Leeds Ashley Road 2, Denaby United 4

Twice Leeds Ashley Road equalising their home Yorkshire league match with Denaby United on Saturday, but the superior attacking power of the boys from Tickhill Square won the day and they were worthy 4-2 winners.

Manager Harry Lee had brought himself into the side at centre forward after Denaby’s home defeat last Saturday and the United attack were soon into their stride, with both Lee and Cooper going close.

Denaby did not have any really clear-cut chances until the 20th minute when Launders scored with a terrific rising drive. Ashley Road always looked a good side in the first half, but played much closer than Denaby.

Following the interval, the Ashley Road team began to show their paces, linking up well and using the ball to full advantage, and they drew level with a Cockroft goal. But a foul on Lee gave Denaby a penalty, and spot kick expert Caunt scored. An excellent shot by Green put Ashley Road level again, but Launders was there to cash in on a defensive lapse and put the visitors in front, Denaby were being made to fight; hard, but Mike Smith made the points certain with a goal from a Launders pass.
