Denaby Disappointing

Leeds City Reserve  3  Denaby United  0

We picked nothing up at all in the Midland League line on Saturday, for Denaby went away to Elland Road to fare worse than Mexborough, and according to accounts they do not appear to have had much of a show for their railway fares.

Leeds City won by the handsome margin of three goals to none, and Denaby did not manage to reproduce any other form which distinguish them against Rotherham town and against Castleford.

Moreover, the previous weeks rest did not appear to have done them any particular good.

Summarise, the balance of play was with Leeds city reserve, almost all the so in the second half, when Denaby rarely got a look in, and the game never looked like arousing the 2,000 spectators to anything approaching a frenzy.

A Bad Mistake

The Denaby lads held out bravely enough in the first half against superior odds until close upon the interval, when Trimble broke the ice by handling in the penalty area, and Bridgett opened Leeds account that way.

Denaby were doing badly enough up to then in all conscience, and if they had been able to turn over with a clean sheet, they might have rendered a better account of themselves. As it was their best effort at goal was a shot by Blackburn shortly before the interval when he struck the crossbar with an oblique drive that made it rattle again.

That one effort apart, Lang and he did not present the difficulties to the opposing defence they have been want to present, and the whole forward line was out of gear. The backs were not steady either, though Jackson was the better of the two, and kicked better. Jack Westwood was not in his usual happy mood, and that meant a good deal to Denaby. Moxon kept his usual clever goal, and was not to blame for the defeat. In fact it was a distinct off day for Denaby, and they were capable of much better things than they did at Leeds.
