Denaby at Lincoln

The visit of Denaby to Lincoln attracted a fair gate for a Midland League game, and the ground had considerably recovered from the recent deluges.

There was little to choose between the teams either in regard to combination or individual display, but Denaby must be accounted fortunate in scoring in the first few minutes. Throughout the game the defence was always a little better than the attack on both sides, and neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled. At times the midfield display of Denaby was very smart, but the attacks were not pushed home.

In the second half the locals had decidedly the better of the argument, and the visiting custodian effected a clever save from Jacklin. Ropworth’s goal for Denaby near the finish came quite as a surprise.

Lincoln City Reserve v. Denaby United

Glorious weather favoured this fixture at Lincoln. The visitors got dangerous in the first minute, and Hosey scored. Lincoln then attacked strongly, and met a safe defence. Thompson equalised for Lincoln twenty minutes later.

Pretty play in midfield followed, but the attacks were not dangerous, Denaby, if anything, having the best of the argument. On resuming, Denaby nearly scored, and maintaining the attack forced a corner. Lincoln then forced the pace, but ineffectually. Stables saved a particularly hot shot from Jacklin, and Alston for Lincoln saved a smart shot, but failed to clear, and Ropworth scored.

Result: Denaby United, 2 goals; Lincoln City Reserve, 1 goal.
