Nasty Blow for Denaby.

Lincoln City Res  6 Denaby United 1

Saturday was an unlucky day for Denaby. At the interval of the match at Lincoln they led by a goal scored towards the end of the first half by L. Green. In the first half they were rather the better team and deserved their lead.

But the whole aspect of affairs was changed very quickly after the teams crossed over. There was a scramble in the Denaby goal area and during it Arthur Smith, the Denaby              goalkeeper, had his left leg fractured just above the ankle. That took all the steam out of the Denaby team and in the time remaining for play Lincoln scored six goals without response from Denaby.

Bettridge took over Smith’s place in goal and did some very good work, but the team as a whole was disheartened by thenasty accident.

Three of Lincoln’s goals were scored by an amateur, Begg. Ellis (2), and Pringle scored the others.

Arthur Smith played with Wombwell and was for a spell on Leicester’s books. He is the former Wath cricketer, now a professional with Rawmarsh.
