Another Denaby defeat
A Long Eaton hat-trick

Long Eaton 3, Denaby 0

Long Eaton on Saturday gained their first victory for six weeks, and Denaby were the victims. It was their fifth consecutive defeat in the competition and they have as yet only won one match away from the Denaby ground – at South Elmsall.

The match at Long Eaton on Saturday was fast and interesting. The score flattered Long Eaton. The first half was quite evenly contested but the Long Eaton defence was too solid for Denaby to pierce. The attack was strongest on their wings, where Skeels and Wadsworth were lively and dangerous, but in the middle of the line was not so effective.

The only golf of the half was scored by Elston after 27 minutes. That player went on to complete the hat-trick after the interval so that the day’s scoring was purely a one-man affair. Elston’s third goal was one of those rarely seen in these days of anti-individualistic football. He carried the ball through single handed by a spectacular dribble.

After the second goal Denaby rallied strongly and kept Long Eaton defendant, but great keeping kept them out.
