Goalkeeper Bolwell Denaby’s only Star

Loughborough United 2, Denaby United 0

Only the brilliance of goalkeeper Bolwell saved Denaby from a thrashing at Brown’s Lane, Loughborough in Leicestershire on Saturday. In one ten-minute spell mid-way through the second half he made five magnificent saves.
The visitors were knocked out of their stride from the outset, as the youthful Loughborough side stormed into the attack.
It was obviously only a matter of time before a goal came, and it was in the 11th minute that wing-half DAVID HUSS put the home side in front with a tremendous drive on the run from the edge of the penalty area.

The first 25 minutes was all Loughborough but they seemed to become over-confident and allowed the Yorkshire side to come back into the game.
D. Whittaker and centre forward Hanby had good shots well saved by home goalkeeper Reynolds.
Just seconds before half-time, Loughborough increased their lead. A fierce drive from the left wing was parried by Bolwell straight to home player-manager Geoff Hazeldine, who calmly pushed the ball into the net.

All one way

The second half was almost all one way traffic, with Bolwell earning applause from the Loughborough forwards with some inspired goalkeeping.
But there was little else to enthuse over in the Denaby team.

Apart from Bolwell, centre half Hinton and leader Hanby, they looked very ordinary. They were constantly at panic stations and an accurate pass was a rarity.

Denaby’s position in the league looks hopeless. On Saturday’s form it would be foolish to predict a change of fortune.
