Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Friday 02 September 1927
Denaby United beat Newark by the only goal, scored by Clegg five minutes after the resumption, at Newark, last night. The match was full of interest.
Playing open football, the visitors did the more attacking in the first half, but finished poorly. Five minutes after the resumption Clegg converted a centre from Heatherington, lifting the ball over the prostrate Newark ’keeper into the net.
Later Denaby had luck with good efforts Johnson and Goodison. Hart, Harriman, and Spray lost chances for Newark, and the United were hard pressed to save the points.
Denaby just deserved to win, being quicker on the ball than the home team.
