Weak Attack
But Denaby Defence Quite Sound
Newark’s Rampant First Half

Newark 3  Denaby 0

Denaby United last night, at Newark yielded three goals-in the first half. There was no more scoring: The Denaby defence showed up well against a good and energetic forward line but their attack was not at all effective.

Denaby had the better of-the early play and Betts was let clean through only to be dispossessed by the -Newark goalkeeper. Newark improved and in 11 minutes KERR gave them the lead. Shortly afterwards Harvey made a-good save from close range and at the Newark end Stone shot over from a favourable position.

L Williams missed badly when a centre from Rowell found the home defence out of position. At the other end Renshaw was given offside when he looked like adding to Newark’a,:lead. Stone went close for Denaby with a header.-

After 30 minutes KERR lobbed a second goal over the head of the advancing Harvey, and four minutes later DOOLEY got a third.

Petered Out.

Immediately on resuming the Newark goal had a lucky escape, Clifford missing by inches from close in. As in the first half Denaby did well but fell away. Stone had a chance of running through but was cleverly intercepted by Gray.

Skaites shot weekly when Dooley put him through but Evans brought Harvey to his knees with a. grounder. The Denaby goalkeeper then made a brilliant save from Brown. Towards the end the visiting goal had a series of lucky escapes, and credit was due to their defence for close packing.
