This Was It!
Notts. County Res. 1, Denaby United 2.
This, indeed, was “IT” for Denaby United supporters who have been waiting for a Midland League victory from United since their defeat at Rotherham Res. at Millmoor on September 22nd.
Notts. County had lost only one home fixture before Saturday – their first – and their impressive display when they beat Denaby at Tickhill Square is still remembered. Hats off, then, to United for a grand performance, outstanding in which was the brilliance of goalkeeper Jones. Jones was in for Geoff Mayhall a United ever-present who has joined the Police Force and was unable to get away for Saturday’s game at Nottingham.
Little was seen of Denaby in the first quarter, then a breakaway brought them a goal by WHEATLEY. A mix-up in the County defence enabled WOODS to score their second after 36 minutes and that was how they crossed over at half-time. It was not until the 73rd minute of the game that ROBY scored for County. Denaby are at home to Lincoln City Res. on Saturday.
