Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Friday 15 March 1912

Denaby United Heavily Beaten.

Notts County Res  6  Denaby United  1

There was not a particularly good attendance this match Nottingham, yesterday, between the County Reserve and United, but the football was bright and attractive. Notts were perhaps only a shade more prominent than their visitors, and only ten minutes had elapsed when Grice gave them the lead with smart shot at close quarters.

Denaby played up with spirit, and from nice centre by Dodsley Felton equalised the scores. After half hour, however, Waterall secured the ball at close quarters and scored second goal for Notts, who had most of the play up to the interval.

In the second half Notts quickly placed the result beyond doubt. Walker was fouled was going through, and from the penalty kick he scored third goal. Then Hill for struck the under-side of the bar, and Felton, after having one shot saved, met the rebound and headed just wide.

After 20 minutes McCulloch scored a fourth goal for Notts, and Sankey soon added a fifth. Denaby strove manfully, but Suter was in great form goal, and just on time McCulloch scored sixth for Notts with a lovely oblique shot.
