Wombwell Fail to Stay.

Wombwell 1, Denaby United 2

Denaby United who have been drawn to meet Wombwell, at Denaby, in the English Cup next week end, were entertained at Wombwell yesterday in a Midland League engagement. The weather favoured the event, and quite a good crowd availed themselves of the opportunity of watching a most interesting rehearsal. There would be quite 2,000 present at the kick-off. Donald Kaye had received an ugly knock on the ankle at York, which kept him out of the team.

Wombwell had luckily dropped across a likely understudy for the position in young Jimmy Daxin, of Mitchell Main. Wilkinson was again called upon for service in the half-back line in place of Bedford, otherwise Wombwell were at full strength.

Denaby made one change from the side which beat Wath last Saturday, Kilner displacing Holt at outside-right. The first notable feature came from Ingledew. A long shot be Clarke lacked hammer, and Bromage had an easy task. The Denaby forwards had had little chance of shining so far but Picknett pulled a likely one over which Drew intercepted smartly. Following a corner kick by Broskom, the Denaby goal came desperately near to falling to lobbing shots beautifully judged by Wilkinson. Wilkinson repeated this special turn on four occasions, and the fourth with successful. INGLEDEW caught the ball on the bounce, and from four yards’ range easily beat Bromage.
