Seven Goals – An Easy, Victory
Denaby Fail To Score
Peterborough 7, Denaby Utd, 0
Denaby, who meet Peterborough at Tickhill Square in the last match of the season on May 6th, lost heavily at Peterborough on Saturday without scoring, although they managed to hold their opponents to a two goals lead at the intervaL
Peterborough pressed from the start and McCartney had a drive deflected. Just afterwards Sharp put McCartney through again but he failed to put any sting behind his shot. Play continued at the Denaby end and Sharp shot just over the bar. Then the Denaby keeper went to his knees to save from McCarthy for twice flinging himself full length to save powerful shots from White and Fielding. From a corner Warnes netted, but he put the ball into the goal with his hands, and the point was disallowed.
After 15 minutes Peterborough took the lead, COOPER scoring with a brilliant left foot shot following a corner on the left. Eleven minutes later Peterborough netted again, FIELDING placing a left foot shot just inside the upright. Peterborough confirmed to dictate the play and Dickens was rarely troubled in the home goal.
Fast play marked the start of the second half and Dickens fisted away a corner by Hughes after eight minutes. WHITE received a pass from McCartney and scored Peterborough’s third goal. Fielding` went close just afterwards, his powerful drive skimming the bar. WHITE added a fourth after 16 minutes, giving the final touch to a shot by Fielding. FIELDING (2) and HADEN added further goals for Peterborough.
