Goalless Draw at Rawmarsh

Denaby have been in winning form lately, and a good crowd lined the ropes on the Dale Road ground, Rawmarsh, to witness them tussle with the Rawmarsh team.

The Town team contained several young players of great promise. The game opened with Rawmarsh forcing a corner, which came to nothing. The Town then made a move towards their opponents’ goal, and Cooney put in a splendid long shot, which gave Rotherham, the Denaby goalie, some anxiety before he finally cleared.

The visitors’ left wing got going, and some pretty passing between Calladine and Hatton nearly upset the home goal, when Briggs came to the rescue. He saved the situation manfully.

The Denaby forwards were now playing well together. Penton fired in a high shot, which Falshar only just stopped. The colliery team pressed hard, but could not score, and at half-time the score-sheet was blank.

On resuming, Rawmarsh went off with a bang only to be stopped by the good defence put up by Swinbourne and Peters.

The Denaby forwards had another turn after this, but Hatton on two occasions centred badly, whilst from Lowley’s centre Penton headed over.

Cooney sent in a good shot from the left, which Rotherham saved, and then Whitworth forced a futile corner.

Towards the close, play became pretty even, but neither set of forwards could find the rigging.
