Reserve Power Strengthens Denaby United’s Hopes for New Season
Denaby United are quietly confident about their prospects for the coming season in both the Midland league and the Sheffield Association League, and the final practice at Tickhill Square on Saturday revealed that there were several promising young players on view who will make a good reserve side and strengthen the first 11.
The match itself was spoiled by the strong wind. The Reds forward line comprise the probable first team attack and, as the stronger side, the Reds won three – one. Egan and Martin (2) scoring for them and Law for the whites. Outstanding players were Lambert, Martin, Southall, Barnes (P.) And Egan for the Reds, and Wroe, Barnes (W.) McNicholas, Law. Shelton and Wright for the Whites. Changes were made at half-time, Roberts coming in for Tait on the red side and Cooke, Walker, Peacock and Farnell for the whites
Not available of the signed players were Holmes, Gilliot, Hague and Clarke (on holiday). Roberts was quite a success, and both goalkeepers excelled; indeed, they were both contenders for the first team place when the teams were selected on Tuesday,
