Rotherham 1 Denaby United 1

At Clifton Lane. Owing to the first team having to fulfil a Midland League engagement at Stockport, Rotherham had to rely on their second team. Winning the toss, Rotherham kicked off towards the racecourse, and made the first advance. Wells, however, intervene with a timely clearance, and at the other end Frith cleared finely from Ryans.

Smart work by Levick, in the home front rank, again placed the visitor’s goal in danger. Pickering tested Hancock with a fine shot, which the latter did well to clear.

For some little time after this, Denaby were the most aggressive but the home defence was sound. Gray initiated a run on his own, after about half an hour’s play, and scored a capital goal for Rotherham. Subsequent exchanges ruled even, and the interval arrived with the home side a goal in front.

The second half opened with a smart attack. Hosey was next prominent for Denaby, Palmer having to run out clear a long one from Ryans, whilst Arnold, a few minutes later shot high over.
Rotherham then had a turn. Taylor got in an accurate centre, but no one was up to take it.
Shortly afterwards Denaby were awarded a penalty, from which Lawley equalised.
Rotherham had the best of the play after this, and once got the ball into the net, but no score resulted.
