Rotherham Town 2 Denaby United 1

The match at Clifton Lane last evening between Rotherham Town and Denaby United, yielded some very ordinary football. About 2000 people were present.

Town were without Saul, Whitworth and Burkinshaw, their respective place had been taken by Cobb, Jones and Kaye.

The opening goal was scored within the first 10 minutes, a file rather close in enabling Swinburn centre, the ball bouncing off count, the Rotherham left back in the net, Philips being powerful. Mike soon afterwards brought the score level with a pot shot. There was excitement in front of the visiting goal, Moxon saving two shots, one from Kaye been very noticeable.

Rotherham second came from Thompson, Mite being responsible for the pass. After this Denaby made a number of advances, but could not get through and Birtles distinguished himself by a fine centre, which only missed by inches and a header by Powell was similarly unsuccessful.

Half-time arrived with Rotherham Town 2  goals and Denaby United 1 goal.

Very soon after the restart Laing dribbled to Phillips but no difficulty in scoring. A corner to Town came to nothing, and a fine long shot from free kick, taken by Blackburn, was very cleverly got rid of by Phillips. Moxon was forced to concede a corner to Count, but it proved valueless.

Denaby strove hard to equalise, largely in the pitch in the concluding stages. Birtles after some clever manoeuvring, passed to Powell, who found the net, but the goal was disallowed.
