Denaby’s Big Lead Neutralised

Scunthorpe United  3  Denaby United  3

Denaby’s supporters who saw the half-time score of their team’s match with Scunthorpe, at Scunthorpe, were hopeful of them obtaining both points for a 3-0 lead is not easily neutralised. However, Scunthorpe improved on their first half display and managed to save a point as the result of a praiseworthy rally.

Denaby deserved the lead which they held at half-time, being by far the better team during this stage. The forwards showed great keenness and were very quick on the ball. Nor did they hesitate to have a shot at goal whenever an opportunity presented itself. They took advantage of three chances which were converted into goals by MOSS (2) and ADAMS, while the Scunthorpe forwards were futile in front of goal and could not get past the last lines of Denaby’s defence in which Brannan played his customary cool and efficient game.

The game underwent a transformation after the interval and Scunthorpe were as much the better team as Denaby had been in the first half. TUCKER, HUBBARD AND “BROWN” put them on level terms and in the last few minutes Denaby were fully occupied in keeping their goal intact. Bromage did well in the Scunthorpe goal and Denaby might have held a more substantial lead at the interval but for some clever saves on his part.
