Denaby Should Go Places in New Competition

Denaby United 4, Hull Brunswick 0

The way in which Denaby dealt with Hull must start bringing the crowds back to the Tickhill Square ground now only a sorry shadow of the Midland League days.

Denaby were full of running right up to the whistle. Their football was full of imagination and the lads from Hull could do little to stem the tide in this  F.A. Challenge Trophy 2nd round encounter.

In three months player manager Harold Sapey has built up a side which must be thinking in terms of the Yorkshire League Championship, and if they keep up          this sort of stuff they could knock down one or two Golliaths.

Within five minutes Denaby stormed into the lead. Morley crossed from the right and Richard England headed a superb goal.

But five minutes later the scores were nearly level when Whitehead came out of his goal to Pinkney, missed, and saw Toyne clear off the line.

Fine Pair

In Wiggles and Toyne Denaby certainly have a fine pair of full- backs. Peter Whitehead and Bennett generally sealed up the middle, and Sapey and Pettit buzzed away in midfield.

For all Denaby’s superiority they had to wait until the 42nd minute for their next goal. Marshall, who later had his name taken for a foul on England, put a cross into his own goal when troubled by Sapey.

England and Sumpner on the wings were always prepared to take on their men, and beat them. Midway through the second up England produced the shot of the match, rounding one defender and sending in a drive from 25 yards. Moore pulled off the save of the match to turn it over for a corner. Willey hit the bar with a header, and Wiggles had his name taken for retaliation against Pinkney before Denaby finished matters with a two goal burst Sapey in the 71st minute and Willey, a minute later, added to Denaby’s total.
