Denaby Checked
Sutton’s first win since Christmas
Sutton 3 Denaby United 1
Denaby unexpectedly went down at Sutton on Saturday, providing the bottom club in the league table with their first win since December 25. The Denaby attack was not at its best and the defence took the day’s honours as halfback, Goodison scored Denaby’s one goal. Sutton are fighting desperately to improve their position and roused themselves to give probably their best display of the season.
Denaby scored first, after Robinson had got the ball in the net for Sutton, but from an offside position. Robinson soon levelled the scores, Bromage failing to hold a greasy ball. Heart gave Sutton the lead before the interval. In the second half the only goal scored was obtained by West for Sutton.
The conditions were very bad, the game being played in rain on a treacherous surface.
Denaby’s only “away” win this season in the Midland League competition was gained at South Elmsall on October 9.
