Well Worth The Points.

Swallownest M.W. 2, Denaby United 0.

The single fact that made this whole thing worthwhile, was that at least somebody won in the end. And make no mistake – Swallownest fully deserved both points from this grim, water-sodden Yorkshire League tussle with Denaby United at Swallownest.

The tactics of the home side were simple – knock Denaby of their stride and then attack, attack, attack.

Denaby could offer little in return for the vigorous stuff Swallownest served up. Inside forwards Cliff Staite and ‘Tiger’ Hall – paying a return visit to their former home – found the reception anything but friendly.

The pair were chopped and barged out of their style and rarely troubled a home defence which revolved around the tall capable Corden.

Unlucky For Denaby.

Swallownest’s first goal came in the 40th minute. After a Lax corner, Senior’s centre was apparently pushed onto the post by Collingwood, rebounding on to the legs of Denaby right-back WHANT and, into the net. One could hardly blame the defender.

Swallownest’s second goal was a more deserving effort, well taken by WILSON after 20 minutes of the second half.

All in all, apart from isolated incidents, it was a dull, drab affair Denaby’s failure to find a way through the home defence became a bore. Sattersley and Newbould, Swallownest half-backs, consistently intercepted Denaby passes that followed the same line time and time again.

Denaby’s left wing, Larder, standing in for Toyne, looked extremely unhappy, and on the other flank Jolley might have made some impression had he been fed with any accuracy.

A final word for United’s left back Derek Cox – probably their most consistent player at present.
