The Bitters are Mixed With the Sweets

Fortune’s a habit of mixing her fare,
So that each one of luck gets proportional share
Those who’ve dined at her table fully aware
The bitters are mixed with the sweets!

It is one day a slice of good luck, fat and clear
The next it’s the bone of adversary lean,
Which is generally served when the appetites keen
For the bitters are mixed with the sweets information

Yet it’s good for the world that Dame Fortune displays
These rather eccentric and contrary ways;
A touch of adversary frequently pays
So she mixes the bitters and sweets

For she gave them throughout all the worst of the lean
While Denaby got all the fat that was seen
that’s how bitters are mixed with the sweets!

But there’s this consolation that Denaby’s turn
To taste of the bitters that blister and burn,
Someday will arrive, when they also will learn
That the bitters are mixed with the sweets
