Denaby Utd – Their Most Expensive Side ?

There has been some talk that Denaby United side this season is their most expensive, but Coun R. H. Shepard, who was secretary manager of the club just before and during the war, tells me that this is not the case.

“The most expensive team that ever played at Denaby was in season 1939-40 when gates were only sixpence,” he said.

And the team? Gibson (Hull and Middlesbrough); Happs (Barnsley) and Williams (local); Fletcher (local), Wright (Derby Co and Darlington), Carr (Huddersfield town and Southend); J. Davies (Bradford Park Avenue), J. Padgett (Bradford Park Avenue), Ardron (Rotherham United), Black and Gibbs (Barnsley and Leicester City.)
