Denaby Maintain Their Impressive Away Record

Thorne Colliery 2, Denaby United 3

Denaby United maintained their impressive away Yorkshire League record with a convincing victory at Thorne on Saturday, after being a goal behind at the interval.

Morley gave the visitors an early lead when he headed home a shot which rebounded into play from the cross bar.

A defensive blunder allowed Thorne to come back into the game with a goal after 15 minutes. Slack defensive play by Denaby was responsible for the second goal, which gave Thorne an undeserved interval lead, but Denaby had only themselves to blame for the deficit.

Constant Action

Denaby stormed into attack at the beginning of the second half, and the Thorne goalkeeper was in constant action as the visitors pressed. Morley got the equaliser with his second goal of the match, after Gilbert had provided the spadework.

The right winger made a brilliant run down the right, beating four defenders, before hitting a low centre across the face of the Thorne goal. Morley was on the spot to bang home the equaliser.

Denaby pressed for the winner, and Thorne often relied on a ten-man defence in an effort to hold their opponents, but with 15 minutes remaining, Caunt fired home a cross from Whittaker to seal the clash
