Denaby United In Another Draw

Worksop Town 1  Denaby United 1

Denaby United were concerned in another draw when they visited Worksop Town in the Midland League on Saturday in a game which although it never reached great heights, was notable for the play of the rival centre halves.

Former Worksop Town player Phil Barnes and Worksop young Leslie Moore, both played extremely well, with the result that both centre forward, Martin (Denaby) and Parkinson had lean spells.

After Worksop had had the better of the opening play, Terry Foster opened the scoring after nine minutes. He lifted the ball over his head into the roof of the net, and although Wheatley tried to stop the ball entering the net, all he could do was to help it on its way.

Smethurst smartly turned away a ball from the foot of the post, sent in from 25 yards by Linley, who equalised in the 68th minute his splendid first-time shot following a centre by Merrick.

Worksop was often caught in a Denaby’s adroitly conceived offside trap.
