Denaby Enter Senior Cup Final

Guest the Master Mind at Worksop

Worksop Town, 1  Denaby United, 2.

No doubt about Denaby’s superiority against Worksop Town at Central Avenue on Saturday and they were full value for their win which qualified them to meet the winners of the Grimethorpe—Sheffield Wednesday “A” clash in the Sheffield Senior Cup final.

Full strength Worksop fielded the same side so narrowly beaten at both Blyth and Ashington, but they game were seldom in the hunt. It was not not an entertaining game though there were many exciting incidents equally divided between either half.

Oldest man on the field—or at least one of them—won the game for Denaby. True, he did         not score the winning goal but it was his work which prompted the win. Yes, it was Gladstone Guest.

Two Goals In Minute

A goalless first half was followed by a goal to Worksop, centre-forward LONGDEN being the marksman. It was a well-taken goal, and followed a movement cleverly conceived and executed. Within a minute GUEST had equalised.

Before Worksop had realised that the game had re-started Guest dribbled through the entire defence to leave Wheatley hopeless and helpess. The winning goal was scored by attack-leader SHAW—a superb effort.

Guest was the inspiration of the visitors’ attack and the burly Oliver was always in the thick of the battle. Dennis Friel had a good game against his old colleagues—the scene of many of his triumphs Teams:
