Denaby Fixtures
Saturday—and Monday Evening
Denaby United, who beat Worksop 2–1 in the Sheffield Senior Cup, were beaten 4–1 in a Midland League fixture at Worksop on Saturday. Worksop led 2–— at half-time, Rowney getting Denaby’s only goal in the second half. Worksop’s scorers were Marsh (3) and Morris.
The extra tax on charges of admittance to football matches promises another “headache” for Midland League clubs like Denaby United. Denaby “gates” this season have been nothing like those needed and it always has to be remembered that referees’ and linesmen’s fees account for some £4 to £6 of the takings at each game. No doubt we shall be hearing more about it after Tuesday’s F.A. meeting in Manchester.
Denaby gate charges at the moment are 1s, with a special figure of sixpence for colliery contributors.
Denaby are at home on Saturday to Frickley Colliery, who have gone through nine Midland League matches without defeat. Team selection was deferred until Thursday.
Denaby have also re-arranged for Monday evening (kick-off 5 p.m.) a Midland League fixture at Denaby with Peterborough, which should have been played on March 8th (a Sheffield Senior Cup date).
