Denaby Just “Pipped”
Worksop Town 5 Denaby United 4
The good news of Denaby United’s 3-2 lead in the Midland league in the game at Worksop came through to Tickhill Square (during the Schofield Tech – Bolton Ings Lane, Montagu cup semi-final ) at half-time on Saturday, but as was subsequently learned, Worksop went on to win 5-4.
Poulson’s two goals took his total (cup and league) to 19, Duggan got the third Denaby goal and Gee, “own” goal, made up Denaby’s four.
Interesting feature of the game will include a former Worksop skipper, Barnes at centre half for Denaby, and of former Denaby United forward, Friel, for Worksop.
Dean gave Worksop the lead, rods for the tube after 20 minutes. Wilson saved a penalty shot by Southall, and it was left to Poulson to score for Denaby, Gee’s own goal put United on terms and Poulson gave them the 3-2 lead at the interval.
Rhodes did not make the same mistake as Southall when Worksop were awarded a penalty in second half, and that made it 3-3. Rhodes and Friel scored subsequently for Worksop and Duggan for Denaby.
