York City 1 Denaby United 0
Denaby United could scarcely have made a better start to their backlog of Midland league fixtures, and there are away victories at Bradford City, Corby (last Wednesday) and Mansfield Town (on Saturday) have given a real impetus to the bid to create what president Sam Peck described at the annual dinner as “a very reasonable position in the League table.”
Fenton got the late goal (in the 79th minute) by which Denaby were beaten at York on Easter Monday. After conceding a run of corners in the early stages of the game, United took the dominant role and the York goal bore a charmed life under a bombardment of shots, even to the extent of goalkeeper Forgan saving a Hague penalty shot – and the shot hit from the rebound.
